IRRIGATION FARMING GIVES BOFU WOMEN A FINANCIAL LIFELINE

Sprinkler irrigation is transforming the lives of women in Bofu, Kasemeni Ward, Kwale County, by enabling them to earn an income, support their families and participate more actively in household decision-making.
Kauli Chizi, a farmer from Bofu Farmers benefiting from the Bofu Dam Project, says the farming method has created opportunities for women to become self-employed and earn money through the sale of their produce.
Chizi says the income has helped women meet family expenses, including paying school fees for their children, easing the financial burden on their households.
She adds that sprinkler irrigation is performing well in the area, raising hopes among farmers of increasing agricultural production and improving their earnings.
The changes have strengthened women's economic contribution to their families, giving them a greater voice in household decisions and improving their financial independence.
The Bofu Dam Project is providing farmers with an opportunity to improve agricultural production and livelihoods through irrigation farming.
