Kinango Activists Threaten Legal Action Over Water Cut

Social activists in Kinango Constituency, Kwale County, have threatened to take legal action against the Coast Water Works Development Agency (CWWDA) and Kwale Water and Sewerage Company (KWAWASCO), accusing the two agencies of cutting off water services without involving local residents.

The activists say the disruption, which has continued since August 28, has raised concerns among residents who depend on the water supply for their daily activities and essential services.

They have also warned that the prolonged water shortage could expose residents to health risks and disrupt operations at Kinango Sub-County Hospital, which relies on the water supply for its day-to-day activities.

Speaking on the matter, activist Ndegwa Hali said they would not hesitate to seek legal intervention if the agencies fail to restore the water supply.

Ndegwa said residents should not be made victims of administrative differences between institutions responsible for providing essential services, calling on the two agencies to resolve their differences urgently.

Meanwhile, Omari Weko said many residents in Kinango rely on water from Marere, warning that the continued disruption could force residents to turn to unsafe water sources and increase the risk of waterborne diseases.

Weko also raised concerns over the possible impact on Kinango Hospital, urging the government and the relevant water agencies to intervene and ensure that the supply is restored immediately.

The activists have now called for an urgent resolution to the dispute, insisting that access to clean water is an essential service and should not be disrupted because of administrative disagreements.
