The Governor of Mombasa County, who is also the Deputy Leader of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), has confirmed the party's commitment to advancing a political partnership with the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA), as preparations for the 2027 general election gather momentum.

The governor explained this stance on Thursday afternoon, after receiving delegates from the joint ODM and UDA committee responsible for drafting the alliance's election manifesto at his office in Mombasa.

During the discussion, the governor said ODM is fully committed to the Broad-Based Government plan and is ready to participate in preparing a manifesto that will outline the priorities and strategic direction of the partnership.

The committee, led by senior officials Eng. Carey Orege of ODM and Dr. Emmanuel Nzai of UDA, briefed the governor on the steps taken to draft the manifesto, which aims to merge the parties' agendas with citizens' expectations.

The formation of the committee was officially announced on August 10, 2026, following a broad-based government leaders' meeting held in Naivasha. At that meeting, President William Ruto and ODM Leader Oburu Oginga agreed to create a joint team of ten members, five from each side, to draft a joint manifesto for the general election on August 10, 2027.

The manifesto is expected to address areas of agreement between the parties, as well as the views and expectations of Kenyans, to lay the foundation for policies and agendas that will guide the partnership toward the upcoming election.

This step signals ongoing efforts by ODM and UDA to strengthen their collaboration within the broad-based government framework, positioning themselves politically and strategically for the 2027 general election.

Nevertheless, the partnership remains a key component of the evolving political strategies in Kenya ahead of the upcoming election.
