KWALE RECEIVES SH25 MILLION MATERNAL AND CHILD HEALTH EQUIPMENT

The Kwale County Government has received medical equipment worth Sh25 million from LVCT Health through the USAID Stawisha Pwani programme to support reproductive, maternal, newborn and child health services.

The equipment will be distributed to 18 health facilities across different parts of Kwale County.

Receiving the equipment, Governor Fatuma Achani said the support will help improve the delivery of maternal and child health services at the targeted facilities.

Some of the equipment received includes ultrasound machines, incubators for premature and vulnerable newborns, delivery beds, emergency beds, weighing machines and motorcycles, among other medical equipment.

Achani said the county government was working with development partners to address gaps in the health sector and improve access to essential services.

She also said the national government plans to establish a specialised mother and child hospital at Samburu Hospital, which is expected to expand maternal and child healthcare services in the county.

The governor added that Stawisha Pwani has also been training healthcare workers in the county as part of efforts to improve service delivery.

Speaking during the handover, Stawisha Pwani Deputy Director Patrick Oyaro said the organisation would continue working with the county government to address maternal and newborn health challenges and reduce preventable deaths.

The equipment will benefit facilities including Kwale, Mkongani, Lunga Lunga and Kinagoni, among others.
