NAIROBI, Kenya — August 31, 2026 — Flight operations at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) remained disrupted Monday as an industrial action by aviation workers entered its second day.

Thousands of passengers have been affected by delays and cancellations, with some travellers reporting prolonged waits at the airport.

The Kenya Aviation Workers Union (KAWU) has cited unresolved labour grievances, including concerns surrounding collective bargaining arrangements and relations with aviation-sector employers.

According to Reuters, discussions between union representatives and government officials had taken place but failed to resolve the dispute, with further negotiations expected.

The disruption has also affected airlines operating through JKIA. RwandAir cancelled two flights, citing air-traffic-control issues in Nairobi.

Passengers have been advised to confirm their flight status with their respective airlines before travelling to the airport.

The dispute remains ongoing as negotiations continue between the parties involved.
